AMIGOS DE BOQUETE IS PROUD TO SUPPORT BUENOS VECINOS DE BOQUETE

Buenos Vecinos de Boquete was founded in 2005, funded primarily with the money raised from sales of the Boquete Information Book at the weekly Tuesday Morning Ex-pat Meetings in Boquete, Panama.

Buenos Vecinos de Boquete, meaning “good neighbors from Boquete,” provides one nutritious meal a day to needy individuals such as the elderly who have no family to care for them, those who find themselves in a temporary crisis situation and are unable to work, and those who need a helping hand to get on their feet, such as a newly single mother who needs to provide for her children while she looks for employment.  Buenos Vecinos de Boquete also is often the place of last resort for abused women who have no one to turn to for help.

Food is brought to the homes by volunteers who develop a relationship with those in need and work to ensure that everything is being done to get the individual or family back into the main-stream of life, if possible.  For the elderly, the visit may be the only outside contact that person has had all day and it brightens an otherwise bleak existence.

Buenos Vecinos de Boquete has no overhead expenses and all work is done by volunteers. Money is raised through donations and activities such as the weekly booksale at the Tuesday Morning Ex-pat Meeting, Food Drives and the proceeds of an annual auction of donated items.

Amigos de Boquete has for some time provided food to Buenos Vecinos de Boquete.  During 2008, Amigos de Boquete has provided Buenos Vecinos de Boquete with over 200 pounds of rice per month, together with vegetables that Amigos receives from the generous farmers of Boquete, including among others, Finca Landau, Finca Chalo and the Fincas of the Quiel Family including Eric Quiel and Lali Quiel.

In 2008, Amigos donated $10,000 to Buenos Vecinos de Boquete to assist it in achieving economic stability as it works to feed over 50 families in great need.  In addition, Amigos de Boquete continues to provide Buenos Vecinos de Boquete with over $200 of rice and vegetables per month.

AMIGOS DE BOQUETE IS PROUD TO SUPPORT THE HANDICAP FOUNDATION OF BOQUETE

The Handicap Foundation of Boquete ( Fundación Pro-Integración de Boquete ) is a chapter of the Fundación Pro-Integración based in Panama City, Republic of Panama which has been in existence for over twenty years.  The Handicap Foundation’s mission is to provide rehabilitation aids and social integration to low income children and adults with cerebral palsy, autism, mobility problems, deafness, blindness, meningitis, among other afflictions, or disability due to accidents.

Through donations and the time of volunteers (including family members), the Handicap Foundation is able to provide transport to special education programs for the children, as well as transportation to doctor appointments, therapy sessions, and other essential trips in the Boquete/David area, and even to Panama City when needed. The Handicap Foundation has also been able to provide wheelchairs, crutches and walkers as well as some vision and hearing screenings for the handicapped. The emphasis has always been on the children, with the hope of enabling some of them to become independent members of society.

In addition, the Handicap Foundation provides vital legal information to those it serves regarding their rights under the laws of the Republic of Panama.

The Handicap Foundation provides a free lunch every Saturday in its facilities in Alto Boquete.  Here the volunteers interact with the handicapped children and adults, reading to them or involving them and their families in various activities.  The Foundation believes that attention to the whole family is very important to the well-being of the handicapped individual.

Funds are raised through donations from the local community, the sale of prepared foods, ornamental plants and used clothing as well as a yearly raffle and the annual Boquete Charity Auction.

Amigos de Boquete has for some time provided food to the Handicap Foundation.  During 2008, Amigos de Boquete has provided over 120 pounds of rice per month together with vegetables that Amigos receives from the generous farmers of Boquete, including among others, Finca Landau,  Finca Chalo and the Fincas of the Quiel Family including Eric Quiel and Lali Quiel.

In 2008, Amigos donated $5,000 to the Handicap Foundation to assist it in achieving economic stability as it works to help the handicapped of this community.  In addition, Amigos de Boquete continues to provide the Handicap Foundation with over $300 of food per month.
